Tony Kennedy – Funeral Arrangements

We were sad to hear of the passing of York RA stalwart, Tony Kennedy, earlier this week.

He passed away peacefully, having deteriorated recently following his stroke 3 years ago.

Tony was York RA Chairman 1997-2000. He was awarded his RA 50 year membership in 2008 and the York RA Chairman’s Award in 2010. He was a stalwart member of the RA and a supporter of referees, having assessed in the local Supply League for a number of years before his stroke.

Tony’s cremation service will be held at Woodlands crematorium in Scunthorpe on Thursday 23rd October at 10.40am. This will be followed by some light refreshments at the Ingram Arms public house in Laughton village (about 15 minutes drive from the crematorium). If anyone would like to attend, please let the family know by email (cathykennedy64@btinternet.com) or phone (01427 628908) by Tuesday 21st October. The family are requesting that instead of sending flowers, people make a donation to the charity of their choice.

New Referee Appointment Officers Recruited For 2014/15

North Riding County Football Association are pleased to confirm the appointment of Paul Stalker (North Officer) and Colin Atkinson (South Officer) for season 2014/2015.

Paul and Colin will be responsible for appointing match officials to all adult Saturday league fixtures including NRCFA County and Challenge Cups.

The following leagues will be part of this new appointing system:

  • York Minster Engineering Football League
  • Scarborough & District Football League
  • Newitts.Com Beckett Football League
  • Teesside Football League
  • Eskvale & Cleveland League
  • Wensleydale Creamery Football League

Full information will be sent to all match officials in the week commencing Monday, 7 July 2014, this will include how to register for games within the pool and the appointment procedures that will be in place.

Once again we would like to stress to all match officials that they will still have the opportunity to request which leagues they officiate on in the first instance with both Paul and Colin looking to accommodate such requests.

Ross Joyce, Referee Development Officer, feels that the new appointing system is the way forward.

“After a couple of years of consultation with leagues I am pleased that we are now in a position to implement the new appointing process for all of our Saturday adult leagues in the County for season 2014/ 2015.

“I would like to stress that one of the key objectives of this is for the Association to modernize the way in which match officials are appointed and to ensure that each of our leagues are given the same opportunity to secure the services of a qualified match official, ultimately striving towards 100% coverage of all games.

“Moving forward, and with the appointment of both Paul and Colin, we hope to continue to develop and raise the standards of officiating, whilst providing opportunities for referees to officiate within a number of different leagues.

“We are very mindful that within some leagues referees often see the same clubs a couple of times per month which is not appropriate and can often cause problems. We hope by embracing the new appointment system we can tackle these problems and that a wider variety of officials can by appointed whilst ensuring the cost to clubs does not increase significantly.”

Further information will be sent to all leagues, clubs and match officials from July 2014. If you have any queries, please contact our Referee Development Officer, Ross Joyce, at ross.joyce@northridingfa.com.
