Walking Football Tournament

York City Football Club are holding a Walking Football Tournament on Sunday 12 February, 10am – 2:30pm.

They are looking for three referees to officiate at the tournament. A £40 fee will be offered.

Lol Cussons Evening – Friday 3 March

The annual Lol Cussons memorial evening will take place on Friday 3 March at St Clements Working Men’s Club.

We hope to see as many referees as possible joining us for this free evening, kindly put on for us by the Cussons family. Previous years have included free raffles, bingo, sausages, and great prizes – not to mention some good entertainment.

The chairman welcomed all and wished everyone all the best for the new year.

Apologies were received from Mssrs McEvoy; Coote; Thornton.

Details were given regarding; dinner (22 April, details on line), Membership.

John Key gave details of a RA Hub event to be held 16th Jan, by Barkston Ash RA.

Problem Corner; Details of an incident during the recent Spurs V Chelsea match were discussed. The pros and cons of rolling subs were discussed

The evening’s guest Ben Thaler, Super League Official then gave a presentation outlining his career, interspaced throughout with advice to young and up and coming refs, regarding the dos and don’ts, education, social life, working as a team, learning from senior refs and cherry pick if required, be on players’ wavelengths. Develop your own style. Ben then took a question and answer session and called halt after 90 minutes.

5 January Meeting – Ben Thaler

We are delighted to be welcoming Ben Thaler, rugby Super League and international referee, to our 5 January meeting.

Ben is an experienced professional referee from Wakefield and is a very entertaining speaker.

We hope to see many of our members at our January meeting to reflect on Ben’s career and what we can learn from that to improve our own refereeing.

Safeguarding – Play Your Part

I am writing to ask for your help today in sharing some important information about safeguarding children.

As a match official you are in a unique position to use your networks help the game spread vital messaging about keeping children safe. We are confident in the breadth of work being undertaken in this field across the country but are never complacent.

To that end, please take 60 seconds to watch a new film featuring players from our national teams and then share the link as widely as possible:

Minutes of the 1 December 2016 Meeting

Minutes of Meeting
held at NHS Sports Club on 1st Dec 2016
with 29 Members present.

Jonny Ham took the chair and welcomed all to the meeting.

A minute’s silence was observed for Joan Thorpe.

Apologies were received from Mssrs; Bayley; Blakey, and Atkinson

Minutes last meeting; no matters arising.

Dinner: details were on line with booking form. 27th April, Marriott Hotel; £28.50. Ian Blanchard guest.

Membership stands at 57, low compared to previous years.

Polo Shirts, available to all. One on display.

Problem Corner, topics discussed were; an off the field incident when ball was still in play; Club marks and club facilities.

Tony Thornton then hosted the quiz. Thanks were given after.

Followed by the buffet.
