Law amendments for 2014-15

FIFA

As from 1 June 2014 the new Law amendments apply. They are minimal and cover Law 4 (Players’ Equipment) – allowing head covers to be worn and clarification of slogans on undershirts (see FIFA circular below)

FIFA also re-iterated that Match Officials are not allowed to use cameras or microphones. So nothing of note to worry about for next season in the local leagues.

New Referee Appointment Officers Recruited For 2014/15

North Riding County Football Association are pleased to confirm the appointment of Paul Stalker (North Officer) and Colin Atkinson (South Officer) for season 2014/2015.

Paul and Colin will be responsible for appointing match officials to all adult Saturday league fixtures including NRCFA County and Challenge Cups.

The following leagues will be part of this new appointing system:

  • York Minster Engineering Football League
  • Scarborough & District Football League
  • Newitts.Com Beckett Football League
  • Teesside Football League
  • Eskvale & Cleveland League
  • Wensleydale Creamery Football League

Full information will be sent to all match officials in the week commencing Monday, 7 July 2014, this will include how to register for games within the pool and the appointment procedures that will be in place.

Once again we would like to stress to all match officials that they will still have the opportunity to request which leagues they officiate on in the first instance with both Paul and Colin looking to accommodate such requests.

Ross Joyce, Referee Development Officer, feels that the new appointing system is the way forward.

“After a couple of years of consultation with leagues I am pleased that we are now in a position to implement the new appointing process for all of our Saturday adult leagues in the County for season 2014/ 2015.

“I would like to stress that one of the key objectives of this is for the Association to modernize the way in which match officials are appointed and to ensure that each of our leagues are given the same opportunity to secure the services of a qualified match official, ultimately striving towards 100% coverage of all games.

“Moving forward, and with the appointment of both Paul and Colin, we hope to continue to develop and raise the standards of officiating, whilst providing opportunities for referees to officiate within a number of different leagues.

“We are very mindful that within some leagues referees often see the same clubs a couple of times per month which is not appropriate and can often cause problems. We hope by embracing the new appointment system we can tackle these problems and that a wider variety of officials can by appointed whilst ensuring the cost to clubs does not increase significantly.”

Further information will be sent to all leagues, clubs and match officials from July 2014. If you have any queries, please contact our Referee Development Officer, Ross Joyce, at ross.joyce@northridingfa.com.

St Leonards Hospice Sponsorship – Transpennine Trail

A message from Peter Hartley:

Thanks to those of you who sponsored our Trans Pennine Trail Challenge in aid of St Leonards Hospice over last weekend.
All 5 of us managed to cover the 257 miles & finished in Hornsea at 6pm last night.
At the moment we have raised in excess of £2,000 & hoping to meet our target of £2500.

The bare facts are that it was a gruelling journey over 3 days & despite the fact we started with 5 brand new bikes, everyone of them was affected in someway, with 2 bald tyres, one smashed derailler, & 3 bikes finishing with no brakes as they had all worn down the brake pads.
Saturday left Southport at 9.30am, covered over 80 miles in driving rain at Glossop at 9.45pm.
Sunday left Glossop at 8.30am, started in 3 hours of driving rain, arrived at St Leonards Hospice at 8.30pm having covered nearly 100 miles.
Monday left St Leonards Hospice at 9.10am, apart from 2 hours of rain around noon, sunny weather, arrived at Hornsea at 6pm having covered over 70 miles.

AGM Secretary’s Report – May 2014

Secretary’s Report May 2014

Another season gone.  There was an improvement in membership up to 72 (65 last season). Meeting attendances averaged out at 26 which is roughly a third of the membership, with a good turnout of our younger members attending (then everyone is younger to me).

I think we had a varied spectrum of speakers, with PGMOL referee coach Graham Laws, Ross Joyce CFA RDO, Michael Ingham, York City (though once again the jinx appears after attending our meetings), Syd Nye training officer standing in at late notice, Head of PE at St Johns (amongst other positions) Mark Sullivan, our own Dave King and the quiz presented by Tony Thornton. Though the April meeting  with nothing arranged went well with numerous topics raised and discussed.

Dinner, we had Sharon Shortle, Radio York presenter as guest. Meal was not to everyone’s  taste, with a few complaints. The entertainment made up for it, thanks to Glynn. Colin Fawcett was presented with his RA 50 year membership award. Sam Bayley received the chairman’s award.

The Lol Cussons evening went well, it would be nice if a few more members could attend.

We attained a RA Quest Bronze Award for our procedures and administration.

Thanks go to all committee for their efforts during the season and also to donated prizes, sold raffle tickets , posed problems and assisted in any way.

Congratulations to all who gained promotions and received final appointments for their efforts during the season.

 Proposed meeting dates 2014/5:

Sept 4…Oct 2…Nov 6…Dec 4…Jan 8 ?…Feb 5…Mar 5…Apr 2…May 7.
